Absolute Monarch: A monarch who is not restrained or limited by a constitution or laws.
Louis XIV was an absolute monarch. He ignored nobles and the French Parlement, making whatever laws he decided and doing anything he wanted. Nobody had any say in what he did besides himself. He took all the money he pleased to spend on expensive luxuries and build great things such as the Palace of Versailles, leaving his country bankrupt and deep in debt. He could declare war on anyone anytime without any limits, so why not do it? After this absolute monarch died, his country was starving, impoverished, and itching for a rebellion.
